BIBLE CORE COURSE

After participating in my Discipleship Training school in Australia and Malaysia, I moved on to complete a 3 month intensive bible school called a Bible Core Course, again through YWAM. Within these 3 months we read the whole bible, inductively studying 12 books, and also visited many of the sites the Bible occurred. This was a very challenging course both academically and spiritually. I had come from a background of only reading bits and pieces of the Bible and never understanding references that I was "supposed" to know as a christian. So going into it, a good chunk of it was all new information besides Jesus and the cross.

The biggest lesson this course taught me was that the Bible was not written to us so we cannot read it as if it is. We spent a majority of our time in this course actually studying history rather than deeply interpreting scripture as one might think. We primarily focused on history because the Bible is in fact a historical text. And in order to understand what is being said, we had to understand what circumstances the authors were specifically writing about. Because of this, we spent a lot of time learning about the Roman Empire, Greek Culture, Egyptian Gods, and Jewish customs. I think the craziest part was having the opportunity to also see the sites in person.

One thing I really struggled with before this school was the reality of the Bible. To me it all seemed like fairytale stories. Being able to see the places in person however helped me put two and two together: the Bible and reality. These are real stories about real people and real places and I have seen it with my own eyes!

This school gave me a deeper passion people to read the Bible because I saw how it drastically impacted me in just 3 months of reading. I now understood the history of my faith, why Jesus did what he did, and truly WHY I believe in God. My desire is for everyone to get to experience God though His word and that is the heart behind the Truth channel. That anyone and everyone could hear biblical truth and see that it IS RELEVANT to our life daily!

Without this course the Truth Channel would not be possible. I am still learning more everyday about the word, but this is where I got my foundation for my biblical understanding:)
